MEND Healthy Lifestyle Program for Families
October 28, 2008 – December 30, 2008
The MEND Program (Mind, Exercise, Nutrition…Do it!) is an initiative offering a free healthy lifestyle course for families with children ages 7 to 13 who are above their ideal weight. This is the first time that the program is available in the United States. Families take part in fun two-hour sessions twice a week for 10 weeks. The Program helps them improve their eating and exercise habits, thereby improving children's fitness, physical activity levels, nutrition, and self-esteem. All spots in the course are being offered to families completely free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis. MEND is working in partnership with Parks and Recreation and the SPARK Physical Education Program to run the course, which starts on October 14 at Lost Battalion Hall and runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m. Please note: a parent or caregiver must accompany each child to every session. Families interested in participating should contact Lost Battalion Hall Recreation Center or Elana on (347) 886-3672 or via email at elana.mendus@gmail.com.
