Shape Up New York

Shape Up New York, a free nutrition and fitness program for children and adults, encourages the development of healthy lifestyles by showing participants easy and fun ways to exercise and eat well. Developed with the New York City Department of Health, Shape Up’s classes are led by trained fitness instructors and include cycling, walking and stretching, as well as instruction on preparing healthy snacks and meals.

Step Out New York City

Thank you for a successful summer of strolls! Please check this page in the spring for 2009 schedules and locations.

For the second year, Parks & Recreation, working with a network of community partners, coordinated Step Out, New York City, a major walking fitness program for individuals and whole families.

Participants met at locations around the city to take part in organized 1 ½ to 2 mile walks. They received a pedometer to track their mileage and a t-shirt to highlight their commitment to fitness.

Spring:

Walks took place on Saturday mornings at 25+ sites citywide.

Summer:

Walks took place several days a week at over 40 sites citywide.
