Greenbelt Native Plant Center
The Greenbelt Native Plant Center is a 10-acre greenhouse and nursery complex owned and operated by the City of New York Parks and Recreation. The nursery is located in the borough of Staten Island, in the community of Travis.
The Nursery's mission is to provide locally derived native plants for city-sponsored natural area restoration and management projects. The Nursery also provides plants for smaller scale community-based projects. Our goal is to ensure short-term establishment and long-term ecological integration of natural area projects, providing the greatest measure of protection and enhancement for New York City 's biodiversity.
Towards this goal, the Nursery will research appropriate plant populations for seed harvest; collect seeds conservatively so as to maintain extant populations; record the provenance each plant grown at the Nursery with the aid of a custom designed Inventory Tracking Database software.

The Nursery is in need of someone to assist in all aspects of the day-to-day operations of running a nursery. This includes assisting the field taxonomist in scouting and harvesting seed from various plant populations, data entry, transplanting native plant seedlings in the greenhouse, general greenhouse plant maintenance, soil preparation, and weeding and maintaining Nursery tree and shrub stock.
