Volunteer Opportunities at the Natural Resources Group

Salamander Research

NRG has been collecting data on the presence of salamanders in New York City for nearly 10 years. Information on wildlife and habitat is used by NRG in its extensive work to restore, manage and protect the City's remaining natural areas.

NRG needs reliable, intelligent volunteers to help in this work.

With a limited staff, it is impossible to survey every natural area as thoroughly as we would like. NRG will train all volunteers in the methods of terrestrial salamander monitoring accepted by the leading North American herpetologists. The information collected by volunteers will be entered into the City's wildlife database and then used in habitat assessment and population monitoring.

For more information contact the NRG Volunteer Coordinator, (212) 360-1462.
